His rendering of Salomé presents the legendary temptress as a Byzantine gypsy—wearing diaphanous apparel and raven tresses hung with rings, and plucking an ancient stringed instrument, no doubt to accompany herself in the “Dance of the Seven Veils.” (Art Nouveau; Artist: Mucha)
