Neuchatel, Paris, Geneva, 1764-1782. - 19 volumes in-8, red morocco, triple gilt fillet on the boards, smooth spine decorated, gilt border inside, gilt edges (period bindings).
Interesting factice set of the works of Jean-Jacques Rousseau, composed at the time, including the following editions:
- ?uvres. New edition revised, corrected, & increased with several pieces that had not yet appeared. Neuchatel [Paris : Duchesne], 1764-1768. - 8 volumes: portrait, iv, 421 pp, 1 plate; frontispiece, (1 f.), 447 pp; frontispiece, (1 f.), 384 pp; frontispiece, (2 ff.), 406 pp, (1 f.); frontispiece, (2 ff.), 288, cxliij pp; (2 ff.), xlviij, 384 pp; 480 pp; (2 ff.), 440 pp
Parisian edition given by the abbe de La Porte at Duchesne, under the false heading of Neuchatel. It is illustrated with a portrait of the author engraved by Littret after Latour, as well as a plate and four frontispieces, engraved after Gravelot (2), Eisen (2) and J. B. Pigalle (1).
Dufour (n� 379) describes this edition in nine volumes, the ninth one having to contain the Letters written from the mountain. In this edition, volume VII is dated 1768 and volume VIII 1765. Volumes I to III as well as volumes VI to VIII do not have a false title.
Restoration to a hinge of the third volume and to a bit of the seventh. A few scattered foxes without seriousness.

First edition in-octavo rare, at the date of the original in-4. It includes Clairaut's approval, the king's privilege of July 17, 1765, an errata leaf giving 29 corrections and the 13 plates of engraved music at the end, printed on the same plates as the original. There is also an Extract from the Catalogue de Librairie de la Veuve Duchesne on four pages located before the plates. Some of the mistakes mentioned in the original edition have been corrected here.
Two small snags on the head cover, a minor blow on the edge of the first board. Scattered foxing.

One of the many forgeries of Rousseau's Pensees, illustrated with an unsigned frontispiece portrait of the author.

Uncommon collective edition. The last three volumes which appeared in 1789 are missing.
Scratch on the first cover of the second volume.
Superb set in contemporary red morocco. The first ten volumes have on the spine a tomaison from I to x and a title piece indicating " ?uvres de JJ Rousseau ". The other nine volumes have a slightly different decoration on the back than the first ones. They are numbered from I to IX and the title piece bears the mention " ?uvres posthumes de J.J. Rousseau ". Extremely rare in such condition.
