Augustus Edwin Mulready (British, 1844-1905), Oil on canvas, A flower seller, Signed and dated ?93' lower right, 64cm x 52.5cm, Gilt framed BIOGRAPHICAL NOTE: Mulready was a British artist of Irish descent, best known for his London Street scenes. He entered the Royal Academy Schools in 1861 at the age of 17, and came to the notice of John Callcott Horsley who became his patron. He exhibited at the Royal Academy between 1863 and 1880, and was associated with the Cranbrook Colony of artists. Often described as a sentimental social realist, his pictures are social documents describing the issues raised by social activists like Charles Dickens.
