Italy Venice. Alvise Mocenigo III Osella di Murano 1728
Italy
Venice. Alvise Mocenigo III Osella di Murano 1728 MS65 NGC, CNI-12, Paolucci-544. Darkly toned with underlying brushes of mauve in the fields and a subtle gold tinge to the devices. The strike exhibits some flatness, though there is little wear to speak of, including simple cabinet friction. Osella coins were not struck for circulation, but as gifts bestowed by the Doge to friends and political allies. Murano, famous for its glass blowing tradition, is a collection of islands in the Venetian Lagoon that was once an independent township. A rarity of the highest order.
