A very large and unusual Meissen octagonal dish, circa 1740 Painted in underglaze-blue with a vase on a ledge containing leafy stems and further leaves overhead, within concentric circles, the rim with shaped blue-ground panels with circular reserves, the reverse with trailing leaves and concentric circles, 44.4cm across, crossed swords mark and K in underglaze-blue, impressed 20 (restored) Footnotes: This rare unfinished dish shows the first, underglaze-blue step in the creation of an elaborate Imari pattern based upon a Japanese original. A slightly smaller completed example (37cm across) is in the Ernst Schneider Collection in Schloss Lustheim, Munich (published by J.
