Dieppe, around 1840. Fullround carved ivory. The virtuosly carved bust is depicting Napoléon as General wearing his uniform, hat and order, the face with craggy features turned slightly to the side. On the reverse side ligated monogr. 'JG'. Ebonized base with applicated crowned 'N'. Bedeutende Elfenbein-Büste 'Napoléon Bonaparte'
Dieppe, um 1840. Elfenbein, vollrund, geschnitzt. Die virtuos geschnitzte Büste zeigt Napoléon als General mit Uniform, Hut und Orden, das Haupt mit den markanten Gesichtszügen leicht zur Seite gewandt. Auf der Rückseite ligiertes Monogr. 'JG'. Ebonisierter Sockel mit appliziertem, bekröntem 'N'. Büste: H. 18 cm, Sockel: H. 10 cm. - Die Entstehung der Büste geht einher mit der Exhumierung des Leichnams Napoléons 1840 und der Überführung der sterblichen Überreste in den Invalidendom, Paris. - Provenienz: Ehemals Sammlung Galerie Bruno SUGERES, France; verkauft auf der Biennale Des Antiquaires Grand Palais Paris, September 2018; Privatsammlung Hamburg. -
