Colonials 1760 1/2 P Hibernia-Voce Populi Halfpenny MS65 Brown

Colonials
1760 1/2 P Hibernia-Voce Populi Halfpenny MS65 Brown PCGS. N. 9, Z. 6-C, W-13820, R.1. The Voce Populi farthings and halfpennies were a private issue struck in Ireland. Examples were imported into America, in similar fashion to William Wood's earlier tokens for Ireland, and circulated by weight. Jerry Zelinka's October 1976 article in The Colonial Newsletter is the foremost source on the Voce Populi series. This is a well-struck, chocolate-brown example with exemplary surfaces. Struck a few degrees off center toward 2 o'clock, which is due to die rotation that affects the bottom of the date. Listed on page 46 of the 2024 Guide Book. PCGS Population for all Voce Populi halfpennies: 2 in 65 Brown, 0 finer (8/23).
Ex: ANA Signature (Heritage, 8/2016), lot 3005.
