AN ITALIAN BRONZE FIGURE OF AN ELEPHANT, 17TH/18TH CENTURY

AN ITALIAN BRONZE FIGURE OF AN ELEPHANT 17TH/18TH CENTURY On a malachite veneered plinth, the elephant formerly with further top mount possibly a candle holder 5.5cm high, base 12cm wide Together with a fossil of geode form, now on a porphyry veneered plinth, 10.5cm high overall and a fossil ball on an ebonised plinth, 8cm high Condition Report: As catalogued the elephant has a socket to the centre, quite possibly for a candle or other fitment/mount, this is old and there is no reason to suggest a later date for this. there are marks and discolouration including wear and signs of age and handling, The malachite veneered plinth is associated, this has chips and losses to the edges and corners, also drilled holes to the underside where a previous object has been attached but since lost. Marks and stains to the surfacethe 'Geode' form fossil is a fossilised sea-urchin, it is in a condition as to be expected given its significant age with losses, knocks, indentations. It is not polished but rough and 'raw' with surface mud and dirt (as if just found), the porphyry base is associated with the usual chips and nibbles to the extremities. The fossil ball is firmly attached to the base, it is unknown how (there are no obvious screws so presumed glued), this has various irregularities, it appears to have been lacquered to give it the surface colourPlease see additional images for visual reference to condition Condition Report Disclaimer
