HAMMETT DASHIELL: (1894-1961) American author of hardboiled detective fiction including The Maltese Falcon (1930). Hammett's novels had a large influence on films, particularly in the genres of detective fiction, mystery thrillers and film noir. Book signed and inscribed, being a hardback edition of The Thin Man, published by Grosset & Dunlap, New York, Seventh Printing, July 1934. Signed by Hammett in dark fountain pen ink to the front free endpaper, 'For Sarah E. Gibbs, with all good wishes, Dashiell Hammett'. Bound in the publisher's green cloth with a blue mask imprint to the front board and red and blue title with backgammon motif to the spine. Accompanied by a facsimile dustjacket.
