Large Cents
1798 S-154 R4+ Style I Hair with Large 8 AU55 PCGS. Glossy light olive brown blending to chocolate in protected areas. The surfaces are smooth and this cent has outstanding eye appeal. The only marks are a thin diagonal nick on the cheek and a pair of fine parallel scratches or pre-striking planchet fissures at the top of the wreath. Otherwise this cent is gorgeous, essentially flawless. LDS, Breen state III, with a radial die crack from the dentils to the upper edge of the bust and obvious swelling on the reverse. Struck slightly off center to K-10.5. Called EF40 and CC#3 in the Bland census. Noyes says EF45 net EF40 and CC#2, his photo #24193. This cataloger's EAC grade is EF40. This is a beautiful cent in a neat die state. And it comes with an impressive provenance that has been traced back nearly 150 years. The attribution and Husak Collection provenance are noted on the PCGS Gold Shield label. PCGS population 1, 1 finer in 64. 36032.55/40245547.
