Rouault rages against Arnold BOCKLIN: "Models taken from German swimming pools! Newts with customs officers' heads and fat girls. It's heavy! fake! painted on linoleum with tones of fireproof oilcloth! [...] The slightest sigh from CEZANNE makes this Kolossal house of cards crumble!"... He celebrates Chardin, Cezanne or Corot, true creators who do not succumb to "silly and pretentious theories"...
