PTOLEMAIC KINGS OF EGYPT. Ptolemy I Soter, As satrap, 323-305 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 28 mm, 15.74 g, 12 h), Alexandria, circa 306-300. Diademed head of the deified Alexander III to right, with horn of Zeus Ammon above his ear, wearing elephant skin headdress and aegis around his neck; small Δ on aegis. Rev. ΑΛΕΞΑΝΔΡΟΥ Athena Alkidemos advancing right, brandishing spear with her right hand and holding shield in her left; to right, Corinthian helmet to right over monogram of KΡ and eagle standing right on thunderbolt. CPE 70. Svoronos 164. A beautifully toned piece of excellent style. The obverse struck slightly off center and with a graffito of 'M' on the reverse, otherwise, nearly extremely fine.
