1974 Aston Martin V8 Saloon Series 3

An older restored V8 presented in a classic dark metallic green and benefitting from much recent expenditure.Unveiled in August 1973, the Series 3 differed from earlier cars with the arrival of four, twin-choke, downdraft Weber carburettors which replaced the previous Bosch fuel injection system. To accommodate this new arrangement, the bonnet sported a much larger and distinctive bulge that continued to the trailing edge and a lip adjacent to the boot replaced extractor louvers behind the rear window. Longer by a further ¾ inch, there were other modifications mechanically, cooling was improved and an option was offered on axle ratios. Internally, new seats, revised switchgear, a larger ashtray and fuses located in the glovebox. The passenger door could be locked electronically from the drivers side and adjustments to the shape of the fuel tank had given extra luggage space. This lovely example dates from 1974 and is a genuine matching numbers car finished in dark metallic green with tan leather. It benefits from air-conditioning, power-assisted steering and sits on a set of GKN alloys. Within the history file is a list of work carried out in the past and in addition to all the normal maintenance, wear and tear items it appears that in 1991 at 67,000 miles Aston Engineering in Derby carried out some structural repairs to the car. This included replacing the inner/outer sills, outriggers, jacking points and the car was repainted. It also lists an engine rebuild at 68,000 miles.A list from our vendor of more recent work includes new under arch panels, front valance repaired, new sills, brake servo rebuilt, alternator rebuilt, new brake pipes, new selector-shaft on the auto box, carburettors tuned and balanced, Waxoyled, new carpets, fix central locking, engine bay detailed and a full oil and plug service. The current indicated mileage is just under 79,000.The Aston has been enjoyed by three owners since 1977 and appears to have been well looked after. These, older generation, V8 Astons are full of character and repay regular maintenance and importantly, regular use. This sensibly guided example has obviously benefitted from both of those and according to our vendor is 'running and driving beautifully'.SpecificationMake: ASTON MARTINModel: V8Year: 1974Chassis Number: V8/11238/RCARegistration Number: GDV 265NTransmission: AutomaticEngine Number: V/540/1238Drive Side: Right-hand DriveOdometer Reading: 79000 MilesMake: RHDInterior Colour: BEIGE LEATHERClick here for more details and images
