ATTICA. Athens. Ca. 165-42 BC. AR tetradrachm (30mm, 16.86 gm, 12h). NGC MS 5/5 - 3/5. New Style coinage, struck 135/4 BC, Mened(emos), Epigen(es), and Epigo--, magistrates. Head of Athena right, wearing triple-crested Attic helmet decorated with the heads of four horses above the visor and a flying Pegasus right above the earpiece / Owl standing right, head facing, on amphora; A-ΘE above ME-NEΔ/EΠI/ΓENO/EΠIΓO in five lines across field; to left, Asclepius standing left, holding serpent-entwined staff; Ξ on amphora, ME below; all within wreath. Thompson 351e. HGC 4, 1635. An impressive and attractive piece, nicely centered and cleanly struck on a broad flan. A type rarely encountered in true Mint State condition.
