Henry Thomas Alken (1785-1851) "Merry Monarch, winner of The Derby, 1845" Signed and dated 1845, oil on canvas, 27cm by 36cm Condition report: In an overall good and mostly original state of preservation. Cleaned and re-varnished - with fairly minimal and delicate re-touching to stretcher shadow and somewhat more consistent re-touching to edges in general, but to lesser extent along the lower edge. The signature/ date is possibly strenthened. Some surface dirt and discoloured varnish. Fine stable cracquelure throughout.
