CELINE Louis-Ferdinand (1894-1961).

CELINE Louis-Ferdinand (1894-1961). L.A.S. "LF Celine", Meudon June 28 [1957], to Pascal PIA; 3 pages in-4 on his letterhead, envelope. He has read his article in Carrefour [about his novel D'un Chateau l'autre] and is very happy "to be so well understood and so rightly commented on [...] Let the other critics learn from it! before I expire!... and them too!... Small detail... if I'm still more or less alive and able to thank you, it's because I left France in August 44... where could I go?... Spain? That was to sign my sentence... that left neutral Denmark, where I had deposited all my royalties, which served to support me and my wife, in and out of prison, for seven years... But Denmark via Germany, no other way!... In France, I wouldn't even have seen the Court of Justice; I was scarred long before being judged! As the years go by, everything becomes conformed to a certain 'proper' truth and completely derailed...abracadabrant..."... He ends by inviting her to come and see him: "in two words, you'll know more than a hundred teams of empty talkers"...
