Brunswick-Lüneburg-Celle. Christian Ludwig 3 Taler 1654-LW XF40 NGC, Clausthal mint, KM230, Dav-156 (LS), Welter-1485. 86.40gm. Obv. Hand from cloud holding wreath over horse, all above the city of Celle. Rev. Crowned monogram CL, in laurel wreath, surrounded by 14 crowned shields, "3" stamped at 6 o'clock. A seldom encountered issue represented here by a piece that has seen gentle circulation, as evinced by some rub to the high points of the design. Nevertheless, the design is fully present and deserving of in hand inspection, particularly the monumentality of the shielded reverse. A lovely cabinet patina has seeped into the surfaces and, balanced by darker crevice coloration, makes for intriguing interplay between texture and tone.
