Obsidional 50 Sols (Silver, 34x35 mm, 28.40 g, 12 h), struck in commemoration of Groningen's successful resistance against the forces of Bernhard von Galen, Bishop of Münster, who besieged the city from 9 July to 17 August; with a laudatory inscription on the reverse, privately and contemporarily engraved. • IVRE • • ET • TEMPORE • 1672 • Crowned arms of Groningen; to left and right, 50 - ST. A very rare example with such a finely engraved reverse. Nicely toned. Nearly extremely fine.
