SYRIA: Arab Republic, AV 50 qirsh, 1974/AH1394, KM-108a, Hawk of Quraish, trial strike in gold, PCGS graded Specimen 68, RRR, ex Sherritt Mint Archives. The Sherritt Mint struck 5,472,000 nickel 23.2mm 50 qirsh (piastre) coins for the Central Bank of Syria in 1975, all dated the previous year. We know of only 2 off metal strikes in gold which are not listed on the Sherritt Mint Annual Coinage Summary of 1975. 2nd finest graded at both PCGS and NGC.
