When Marinescu compiled his Columbia University dissertation research in 1996 for "Making and Spending Money along the Bosporus: the Lysimachi Coinages Minted by Byzantium and Chalcedon and their Socio-Cultural Context", he was unaware of any examples of issue 39 in gold. Since then, seven examples have surfaced, this specimen inclusive.
