(t) RUSSIA. Gold 2 Ducats (or Ducat Piefort) Novodel, ND (1676-82)

(t) RUSSIA. Gold 2 Ducats (or Ducat Piefort) Novodel, ND (1676-82). Theodore III. NGC MS-62.
Fr-49; KM-Unlisted; Kaim-1695. An enticing and iconic novodel issue in the name of Theodore III, the ruler of Russia following the death of his father Alexis in 1676. Brilliant and highly shimmering, this RARE offering serves as a great bridge between that period of Russia and the expansive numismatic landscape that would follow. Theodore's reign was rather short-lived, and he died in 1682, eventually being succeeded for a period by his younger brother Ivan V, who had numerous physical and mental disabilities, and step-brother Peter, who would go on to his own highly successful and pivotal sole-rule in the early 18th century.
