A SILVER AND COPPER INLAID BRONZE SHRINE
West-India, ca. 14th ct.

The shrine is cast with a Jain tirthankara seated in virasana on a cushion supported by a pair of lions placed on an elaborate throne, both hands resting in dhyanamudra on his lap, his chest formerly inlaid with the srivatsa emblem, his worn face due to extensive ritual rubbing with a pair of silver inlaid eyes, parasol above, surrounded by several seated and standing attendants, the reverse with remains of an inscription.
