An important pair of rectangular boxes made of precious odoriferous dalbergia wood, known in China as huali or huanghuali when, over the years, the color of the wood fades due to long exposure to light and turns to a warm yellowish tone. This wood, mainly imported from Heinan, is included in the limited number of precious woods used for the production of the so-called "classic" Chinese furniture, and has always been used by the wealthiest classes for the creation of fine artifacts for home furnishings or , as in this case, for refined accessories for the studies of calligraphers.
