Gold Dollars 1855-D G$1 -- Damaged -- NGC Details. AU. Variety
Gold Dollars
1855-D G$1 -- Damaged -- NGC Details. AU. Variety 7-I. Pinscratches and other signs of damage account for the Details grade. While those imperfections may be a liability for some collectors, others might consider them a benefit: the 1855-D would otherwise be unobtainable. The issue boasts a scant mintage of only 1,811 pieces and has one of the lowest survival rates in the series for this mint, which is estimated at only 75 to 100 examples in all grades. This coin is boldly struck from the usual clashed dies. Yellow-gold surfaces maintain a modicum of field reflectivity despite the scattered marks.
